Product Management Guide

Create and manage products, variants, units of measure, and packaging configurations.

Product Overview

Products are the core of your inventory system. Each product can have:

  • Packaging configurations
  • Stock tracking across warehouses

Creating a Product

Creating a new product step by step
  1. Navigate to Products
    Go to Inventory > Products.
  2. Click "Add Product"
    Open the product creation form.
  3. Enter Basic Information
    • Name: Product name
    • SKU: Stock keeping unit code (unique identifier)
    • Category: Product category
    • Description: Product description
  4. Set Unit of Measure
    Select the base unit for tracking this product.
  5. Configure Stock Settings
    • Track Stock: Enable/disable inventory tracking
    • Reorder Point: Stock level that triggers reorder alert
    • Reorder Quantity: Suggested quantity to order
  6. Set Pricing
    • Cost Price: Your purchase/production cost
    • Selling Price: Customer price (if applicable)
  7. Save Product
    Click "Save" to create the product.

Managing Product Variants

Variants allow you to track different versions of the same product (e.g., sizes, colors).

When to Use Variants

  • Same product in different sizes (Small, Medium, Large)
  • Same product in different colors
  • Same product in different packaging

Creating Variants

  1. Open Product Details
    Navigate to the product and click to view details.
  2. Go to Variants Tab
    Find the "Variants" section or tab.
  3. Click "Add Variant"
    Create a new variant of this product.
  4. Enter Variant Details
    • Name: Variant identifier (e.g., "Large")
    • SKU: Unique SKU for this variant
    • Price: Variant-specific price (if different)
  5. Save Variant
    Click "Save" to add the variant.
Variant Stock

Each variant has its own stock quantity. Stock movements are tracked separately per variant.

Product Attributes

Product Attributes define the characteristics that differentiate variants. Common attributes include Size, Color, Material, and Storage Capacity.

Supported Data Types

Text Free-form text values Color: "Red", "Blue"

Packaging Configuration

Configure how products are packaged at multiple levels (individual, pack, case, pallet). This enables accurate tracking when purchasing in bulk but selling individually.

Key Features

  • Multi-level hierarchy: Base, Primary, Secondary, Tertiary levels
  • Barcode per level: Unique barcode for each packaging level
  • Weight tracking: Fixed or variable weight per level
  • Sellable/Purchasable flags: Control which levels customers can buy

Multiple Units of Measure

Products can be bought and sold in different units.

Adding UOMs to a Product

  1. Open Product Details
    Navigate to the product.
  2. Go to Units Tab
    Find "Units of Measure" section.
  3. Click "Add Unit"
    Add an additional unit for this product.
  4. Set Conversion Factor
    Define how many base units equal one of this unit.

Viewing Stock Levels

See current stock for any product:

  1. Find the Product
    Use search or browse to locate the product.
  2. View Stock Column
    The product list shows current stock quantity.
  3. Click for Details
    Open the product to see stock breakdown by warehouse.
Stock Indicators
  • Green - Stock is healthy
  • Yellow - Stock is at or near reorder point
  • Red - Stock is below reorder point or zero

Editing Products

  1. Find the Product
    Use search or browse the product list.
  2. Click Edit
    Click the edit button or product name.
  3. Make Changes
    Update the fields as needed.
  4. Save Changes
    Click "Save" to update the product.
Changing SKU

Changing a product's SKU affects historical reports and traceability. Consider creating a new product instead if the change is significant.
