Menu Structure Overview
The menu system is organized in a hierarchy:
Categories
Group related items (e.g., Appetizers, Main Course, Beverages)
Menu Items
Individual products for sale (e.g., Cheeseburger, Caesar Salad)
Modifiers
Customization options (e.g., Size, Toppings, Cooking Preference)
Managing Categories
Categories organize your menu items for easier navigation.
Creating a Category

Navigate to Menu CategoriesGo to POS > Menu Categories.

Click "Add Category"Open the category creation form.

Enter Category Details
- Name: Category name (e.g., "Appetizers")
- Description: Optional description
- Display Order: Position in the menu (lower = first)
- Image: Optional category image

Set AvailabilityChoose if category is active and visible in POS.

Save CategoryClick "Save" to create the category.
Use display order to arrange categories logically. Common ordering: Appetizers - Main Course - Sides - Desserts - Beverages.
Managing Menu Items
Creating a Menu Item

Navigate to Menu ItemsGo to POS > Menu Items.

Click "Add Item"Open the item creation form.

Enter Basic Information
- Name: Item name shown to customers
- Description: Item description
- Category: Select the category this item belongs to
- Price: Base selling price

Add ImageUpload an item image for visual display in the POS menu.

Configure Options
- Available: Is the item currently for sale?
- Kitchen Printer: Which printer/station receives this item
- Prep Time: Estimated preparation time

Save ItemClick "Save" to create the menu item.
Menu Item Fields

Managing Modifiers
Modifiers allow customers to customize their orders (e.g., size, toppings, cooking preference).
Modifier Groups
Modifiers are organized into groups. Each group has its own rules:

| Group Name | Name of the modifier group (e.g., "Size", "Toppings") |
| Required | Must customer select from this group? |
| Min Selection | Minimum number of choices (0 = optional) |
| Max Selection | Maximum number of choices allowed |
Creating Individual Modifiers
Each modifier within a group has:
- Name: Modifier name (e.g., "Large", "Extra Cheese")
- Price Adjustment: Additional cost (+$2.00) or no charge ($0.00)
- Default: Is this pre-selected?
- Available: Is this option available?
- Size (Required, Select 1): Small, Medium, Large
- Toppings (Optional, Max 5): Cheese, Bacon, Onions, Mushrooms...
- Cooking (Required, Select 1): Rare, Medium, Well Done
- Extras (Optional): Extra Sauce, Side Salad...

Link menu items to recipes for cost tracking and inventory deduction.
Creating a Recipe

Navigate to RecipesGo to POS > Recipes.

Click "Add Recipe"Create a new recipe.

Add IngredientsFor each ingredient:
- Select the product from inventory
- Enter quantity needed
- Select unit of measure

Link to Menu ItemAssociate the recipe with a menu item.
Target food cost is typically 25-35% of selling price. If recipe cost is $3.00 and selling price is $12.00, food cost = 25%.
Managing Item Availability
Marking Items Unavailable (86'd)
When an item sells out or isn't available:

Find the ItemLocate the item in Menu Items list.

Toggle AvailabilityClick the availability toggle or edit the item and uncheck "Available".

Item is Now HiddenThe item won't appear in the POS menu until marked available again.
When 86'ing an item, inform all staff so they can communicate with customers about unavailable items.
Best Practices
- Use clear, consistent naming conventions
- Keep descriptions concise but informative
- Use high-quality images for visual appeal
- Review and update prices regularly
- Keep recipes updated for accurate costing
- Remove or hide discontinued items
- Test new items before going live
